Yes, you should wear a costume. If you would like to go all out, step on up to our stage for costume contest judging which will begin at 7:15am. We will award prizes to the Top 3 costumes in two categories: Individual & Group. Otherwise, keep it low-key with a costume that you can race in. And if you don’t want to race in your costume…

Yes, we will have a gear check. But the usual rules still apply: you get ONE regular sized backpack. So if you don’t want to race with your witches hat or Thor’s hammer, please plan ahead on how you’re going to cram it into your bag. And NO – we will not have room for your cardboard replica Willis Tower costume. You’ll just have to take it back to the car. Speaking of cars…
We encourage all participants to use public transportation whenever possible. CTA’s Roosevelt stop is a short walk from Arvey Field, and there are multiple bus routes in the area. If you are riding with Uber, Lyft, or a super-nice friend, please get dropped off on Balbo between Columbus & Lake Shore Drive. If you are driving, parking will be available in the Millenium Park garages. More details will be sent in October.
The HM and 5k courses will start and finish adjacent to Grant Park Arvey Field. The HM course will be along the lakefront, first southbound toward Promontory Point, then north to DuSable Harbor, before returning to Arvey Field. The HM course will feature accurately placed mile marks and 6 aid stations. The 5k will be northbound along the lakefront with 1 aid station. All courses are potentially subject to change. All courses will be accurately measured and USATF Certified.
There will be packet pickups on the following dates:
- Saturday, 10/23
- Sunday, 10/24
- Thursday, 10/28
- RACE DAY ($5 fee)
More detailed information will be posted closer to the race date.
Girls in the Game understands that not all playing fields are equal, hence our vision is for a world where all girls are empowered to be gamechangers. Events unfolding throughout this country have many in our community in pain and concerned for each other. We ache when we see racism and injustice, acknowledging the pain our communities are experiencing, especially young girls of color who face systemic racist realities that their white peers do not. Girls in the Game, its people and its programming stands firm against that which seeks to destroy equity, inclusion and access.
